Valencia Cooper is the owner of
Centralian Shop Unlimited, LLC, a company that provides marketing services via apparel and accessory decoration consulting. Starting the company as a part-time venture in 2008, Valencia transitioned full-time into the venture in December of
2011. Although she is solopreneur and responsible for all areas of the company including sales, production and customer service, her goal is to grow the company by utilizing the services of people, suppliers and resources within the local economy.
Valencia has worked in economic development for over 15 years, assisting clients with financing, contracting and management consulting. Most recently Mrs. Cooper served as Executive Business Consultant, for the Michigan Minority Business Enterprise Center (MMBEC) where she enjoyed working with the minority-business community to identify new customers & markets and grow their local economic footprint. As a consultant, she was able to work one-on-one with clients to advise on financing, public and private contracting and strengthening internal processes.
Prior to joining MMBEC, Valencia was the Director, Regional Operations, West Michigan for the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council. Her responsibilities included assisting local corporations in developing Supplier Diversity programs; dentifying certified Minority Business Enterprises; developing local etworking activities and business forums; and supporting development for certified minority businesses.
Before moving to Michigan, Mrs. Cooper was a consultant to the Dayton Regional Minority Supplier Development Council, now known as the South Central Ohio Minority Business Council. Additional experience includes working for a Cleveland-based community development corporation, providing assistance to
small businesses located in low-to-moderate income mmunities.
While there, she developed a local business directory, organized a
semi-annual community business symposium and planned various community activities.
Valencia earned a MBA from Wright State University.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication at Central State University (CSU) in Ohio. She has worked with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, Heart of West Michigan United Way, National Council of Negro Women, 100 Black Men of
Greater Cleveland and West Michigan Minority Contractors Association. She currently serves as Financial Secretary for the Grand Rapids Black Chamber of Commerce, Financial Secretary of
the Greater Grand Rapids Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and is a life member of the CSU General Alumni Association.
An advocate for girls and women embracing and celebrating their natural beauty, Valencia along with a friend, Shannon Cohen, reated Curly, Kinky, Coily Natural Hair Meet Ups (CKC). CKC is a resource group for mothers of multi-ethnic/adopted children, and girls & women of color who seek healthier options for their hair and skin needs.
Valencia resides in Grand Rapids, MI with her husband Bryant and two sons, Bryce and Zuri.
